We are pleased to present and invite you to attend the online Winter School "Climate Justice Now! Critical Approaches for Media and Climate Activism", organized by the Rovira i Virgili University (Spain) in collaboration with Università di Palermo (Italy), A SUD Ecologia e Cooperazione Onlus (Italy) , P-Consulting (Greece) and University of Mariupol (Ukraine).

  • The Winter School will take place across nine sessions in January and February 2026 (21, 22, 27-29 January 2026, and 3, 4, 10, 11 February 2026). Each online session will start at 17:00 and run until 19:15 h, for a total of 20 hours.

Description and objectives

Climate justice is not only about recognizing the unequal impacts of climate change, but also about demanding accountability from those most responsible and amplifying the voices of those most affected.

Climate activism plays a central role in this struggle, as grassroots movements, youth organizations, NGOs and Indigenous leaders are pushing governments and corporations to adopt fairer and more sustainable policies.

Journalism is also a crucial tool in advancing climate justice, as it shapes public understanding of the global climate crisis and exposes the power structures behind it. By investigating corporate practices, scrutinizing government policies, and amplifying the stories of frontline communities, journalists help reveal the human dimensions of the climate crisis. Independent and responsible reporting also counters misinformation and greenwashing, ensuring that climate debates are grounded in evidence and justice.

Both journalism and climate activism are undergoing a process of progressive restriction of civic space and freedom of expression in many European countries and beyond, with the introduction of repressive regulations. This is yet another challenge to be faced on the path towards climate justice.

The 2026 Winter School is a space for theoretical and practical training that provides tools to address the challenges posed by the defense and communication of climate justice in the context of an unprecedented global crisis.

The objective of the Winter School is to enable participants to strengthen their knowledge of climate justice and to acquire practical tools for understanding and communicating the climate crisis and defending the environment through theory and practical workshops.

Public: Journalists, climate activists, students and researchers from different disciplines and young legal professionals.

What topics will be covered during the course?
